DESIGNATED OFFICER FUNDAMENTALS
This course is for Designated Officers in public sector organizations covered by the Public Interest Disclosure Act (PIDA) in British Columbia. This course is intended to provide Designated Officers with the fundamental information they need to provide advice and receive disclosures under PIDA. It is a complementary resource to the Designated Officer Toolkit, found on the Ombudsperson’s website.

This eLearning course provides an overview of Designated Officer responsibilities. It is a complement to the Designated Officer Toolkit. It is suggested that learners have the Toolkit open and available during the course. Links to the Toolkit are provided in the course.
Upon completion of this course, you will:
- Understand the steps you can take to promote a speak up culture
- Appreciate the importance of confidentiality in managing disclosures and prevention reprisal
- Know how to give advice under PIDA
- Gain confidence in assessing the threshold of wrongdoing
- Be aware of tools and resources that can assist you in your role
