Speaking Up Safely: Your Rights and Responsibilities Under BC’s Public Interest Disclosure Act is intended for employees (and former employees) who work in organizations that are under the jurisdiction of the Public Interest Disclosure Act (PIDA), also known as the province’s “whistleblower legislation”.
Speaking Up Safely covers the protections that the law provides public sector employees who witness or know of serious wrongdoing occurring in their workplace, and outlines the various options available for reporting wrongdoing. It is in the public’s interest to have a framework for reporting wrongdoing, and this course provides an overview of that framework and the protection it offers public sector employees.
By the end of this course, you will:
- Be able to identify serious wrongdoing, according to the Public Interest Disclosure Act, within your workplace.
- Know who you can seek advice from on issues relating to the Public Interest Disclosure Act.
- Know how to report wrongdoing and reprisal complaints.
- Understand the Public Interest Disclosure Act’s reprisal and confidentiality protections.
- Understand the role of the Ombudsperson of British Columbia under the Public Interest Disclosure Act, and the choice you have when it comes to disclosing serious wrongdoing.
The course will take you approximately one hour to complete, but you don’t have to complete it all in one sitting.
